• We are looking for a warm and energetic Front of House Coordinator who is keen to build their experience in the museum sector and play a key role in positioning the NCM as a vital organisation that straddles culture and technology.
The National Communication Museum (NCM) is a brand-new museum in Hawthorn, based in a refurbished exchange building opening in September 2024. This brand-new not-for-profit museum sits in an emerging cultural and STEAM precinct alongside neighbouring Swinburne University of Technology and Hawthorn Arts Centre. The museum hosts an array of material artefacts and technologies, developed and designed in response to one of the fundamental drivers of our humanity: the need to communicate and connect.
Ensuring a consistent, welcoming visitor experience and a high standard of presentation, security and operation within the museum building, both its galleries and facilities, is key to this role. The role will also manage a pool of Front of House casual staff, including recruiting, training, rostering and overseeing daily duties. NCM’s Volunteer Program will also be managed by this role, which is responsible for working alongside the Collections team to help co-ordinate a range of projects and initiatives to support the NCM. The Front of House Coordinator will also promote and coordinate the NCM as a venue for hire, while also supporting the Development Coordinator and Exhibitions and Programs Coordinator to deliver partner, private and public events.

This is a rare opportunity to be involved in the creation of a new museum from the ground up and provides an opportunity for the right person to make their mark and create something new. This role needs to consider providing a rewarding visitor experience, smooth-running museum operations and an engaging volunteer program.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can think on their feet, is resourceful and is not afraid to get their hands dirty. They should have a genuine interest in emerging technologies, visitor experience, customer service and building networks and communities. You'll enjoy working in our fast-paced environment where you can take ownership and work autonomously. This role will be located three days on the front desk of the museum, and one day in the administration office on the museum site.

Please see the job description for a full list of duties and key selection criteria. To apply, send a cover letter that broadly addresses the key skills and attributes required for the role in no more than two pages along with your CV. Applications should be emailed to [email protected] and marked ‘Front of House Coordinator’ on the application. Enquiries should also be directed to this address and marked attention to Anna Prenc.
