AMaGA Victoria was established as the peak body for Victorian museums in 1993. Our extensive network comprises over a thousand institutions, encompassing galleries, science centres, Indigenous Keeping Places, historical societies and houses, zoos and aquaria, botanical gardens, cultural hubs, and archaeological sites. Impressively, two-thirds of these collecting organisations are operated by dedicated volunteers, with community museums caring for approximately 10 million objects across the state. Our primary mission is to advocate for and support the development of quality museums and galleries, foster responsible collections management, facilitate knowledge sharing and skill development, and promote the creative industries. Our key initiatives are the Accreditation Programs and Victorian Collections.
