First Nations

"By which we mean": Indigenous agency, self-determination, governance, decolonisation, Indigenising

For museums and galleries:

First Nations: First Nations museum and gallery workers are empowered and respected and non-Indigenous members are culturally aware, capable and supportive.

National Voice: Providing case studies of Indigenous leadership models and decolonising/Indigenising museum practice.

Strengthening Capacity: Indigenous professionals and emerging Indigenous arts workers are empowered to grow and thrive in museums and galleries appropriate to context and scale.

Inside AMaGA:

As a national sector peak body, AMaGA will facilitate self-determined First Nations leadership and governance practices. This will look different from what has gone before. The Association will adopt new governance structures that support First Nations agency and do not impose cultural load. The nature and pace of change will be led by First Nations colleagues. The composition and decision-making processes of AMaGA National Council is likely to change as a result.
