OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
The Registration Department has a pivotal responsibility in managing the documentation and movement of the full, challenging variety of works of art for presentation and storage. This includes a collection of around 155,000 works of art and all inward and outward loans for exhibitions and display, nationally and internationally for the National Gallery’s programs on-site, on tour and online.
This position sits within the Registration Department and leads a small team of staff to manage the daily operations of the Gallery’s Collections Management System (CMS), a database designed to facilitate the care of collections through recognised standards of museum documentation and practice. The CMS reflects the breadth and size of the collection and the Gallery’s responsibility to ensure all works of art in its care are documented, tracked, securely stored, properly insured and appropriately accessible.
This position reports to the Associate Registrar, Documentation and Storage and is responsible for the daily operations of the Gallery’s CMS, EMu, through ensuring users adopt best practice in data standards and periodic upgrades to the system. It also assists the Associate Registrar, Documentation and Storage in the strategic and policy development of the CMS. This position of Assistant Registrar Documentation is an ongoing full-time role with the Registration team.
