The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is seeking a strategic, energetic and experienced Director of Visitor Engagement to lead the development and delivery of high quality face-to-face interpretation programs including tours, concierge services, orientation and building support.

This role shapes the program, and supports the team, to ensure our face-to-face interpretation programs are dynamic and relevant, responsive to changing audience needs, meet stakeholder expectations, and help to grow our audiences.

As part of an exciting program of renewal in the Parliamentary Engagement Branch, the Director position will play a leadership role in enhancing Parliament House’s status as an iconic building and location of national significance to ensure that the public can experience the heart of Australian democracy.

The ideal candidate will have an outstanding track record of results in a national institution or similar cultural organisation and will possess the following attributes: commitment to excellence; collaborative and accountable; professional and knowledgeable. Overseeing a large team, you will have a demonstrated understanding of strategic human resources, workplace responsibilities and employee wellbeing.

The Visitor Engagement section delivers quality interpretation and support services to diverse audiences including parliamentarians, building occupants and visitors. The team also supports the work of the Parliamentary Education Office by delivering building tours for school students including a soon to be launched digital program.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leading large and diverse teams and managing resources to achieve quality outcomes in a customer-facing role. Effective and respectful collaboration is critical to the success of the position - both internally with stakeholders and externally with tourism partners and national institutions.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will drive a high-performance culture, engage and motivate staff, and ensure the team is set up for success as we implement cultural and strategic renewal. The role requires a leader with effective stakeholder management and communication skills, experience in delivering quality interpretation programs, and a track record of delivering results in a public sector environment.

If you believe that you are a good fit for DPS, what we are looking for, and have the requisite skills, talent and aptitude to play a part in designing and delivering exceptional visitor experiences, we would like to hear from you.
