The position
This is an exciting opportunity for an Object Conservator, where you will focus on the conservation of works in the National Gallery’s Sculpture Garden, as well as contributing to the dynamic Exhibitions and Loans program.  The role is based within our Conservation Department which specialises in the conservation of paper, paintings, objects, textiles and preventive conservation.  We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Conservator, with a willingness to learn, to join our team.

You will have the chance to work with a range of sculptures and art objects within the National Gallery’s collection.  In this role you will co-ordinate and work on larger projects in the Sculpture Garden, working closely with the Objects Conservation Technician, where you can put your skills and expertise, in the conservation of outdoor sculptures and metals, to great use.  You will also undertake treatments and provide conservation expertise for a broad range of media, therefore familiarity with all aspects of objects conservation is necessary, including the preparation of works of art for storage, transportation, documentation, exhibition and loan. The position also requires someone who can work flexibly in a busy and dynamic environment, to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Applicants should note that this position will be filled at either the NGA Level 5 or NGA Level 6, depending on the successful applicant’s range of skills, experience and capabilities.

This is a full-time role available within the Conservation Department within the Artistic Programs Portfolio.

How to apply
If you are interested in this role you must submit a current resume/CV, the NGA Personal Particulars form and a brief statement of claims addressing the selection criteria (1–2 page pitch), which details your skills, experience and qualifications which are relevant to this position. Please note that the selection criteria do not need to be addressed individually.
