About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to build the State Collection by selecting and acquiring original and rare materials. The role will support key acquisition processes applying an in-depth knowledge of the Library’s legislative mandate and collecting policies. The role will negotiate with vendors, suppliers, publishers and donors to make recommendations for acquisition to the collection. This position will also play an active role in engaging Library audiences with the collection through blog writing, supporting media requests and delivering collection-based experiences.

The Librarian, Collection Curation & Engagement will be accountable for;

·         Supporting selection for the State Collection in line with the Collection Strategy.

·         Providing collection knowledge and support to a range of internal and external audiences.

·         Supporting key collections management processes including providing written reports and supporting data for acquisition approval processes.

·         Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including vendors and donors.

 

About you:

We are looking for someone who has a solid understanding of contemporary collecting practices as they apply to rare and original materials, collection development principles, an inclusive approach and the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders and audiences to promote the collection.

Joining a team of collection experts, specialising in Manuscripts, Pictures, Rare books, Arts and Victorian and Australian content, you will apply a sharp curatorial lens, to continue to build the State Collection in line with the Collection Strategy. The role will be influential in preserving historical and contemporary stories, in various formats, with cultural significance for all Victorians, past, present and future.
