About the role:
The Conservator, Books is part of the Conservation team in the Collection Care of the Library, and plays a key role in the delivery of the book conservation program for the State Collection.

The primary focus of the Conservator is to undertake specialist book conservation of the Library's collection, under limited supervision. This position requires a high level of skill and knowledge in conservation practice, conservation research skills, exhibition preparation, and a sound understanding of preventive conservation and collection management practice.

Working closely with the Conservation Manager, the book conservators and the conservation team, the Conservator is responsible for the management of individual conservation treatments and discrete conservation projects. The conservator contributes to the daily running of the conservation laboratory, assists with disaster planning and response, assists with training and staff development, and advises Library staff in their specialist area of expertise.

The Conservator has a level of responsibility and commitment, and contributes to Collection Care planning and program delivery in line with the Library's strategic plan.
