The Objects Conservator role forms part of a team of specialist conservators at the National Gallery that work across a range of mediums including paper, paintings, textiles and objects. In particular, you will work within the objects conservation team, which consists of three conservators and a conservation assistant. It is a busy environment in which you will need to work flexibly to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight and shifting deadlines.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and qualified conservator, where you will be responsible for complex treatments in all aspects of objects conservation including preparation of works of art for storage, transportation, documentation, exhibition and loan.
To be successful in this role you will be have a good understanding and appreciation of the visual arts and significant knowledge in a range of materials and techniques used in the creation of works. You will also be experienced in project management, able to build rapport and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, prepare clear and concise reports and be skilled in the safe handling and use of chemicals for objects conservation.
This is a full-time, ongoing employment opportunity available in the Conservation Department within the new Operations and Collection Care Portfolio.
