About the Arts & Culture Department
This department is part of our Investment & Attraction Division, and is responsible for leading and supporting the City's arts and culture direction and strategies, and operating significant cultural and community facilities such as the National Wool Museum and the Potato Shed.
About the Role
Through a commitment to delivering the best visitor experiences possible, building audience and the highest professional standards, this position assists with the development and delivery of education and learning opportunities that support interpretation of National Wool Museum exhibitions and collections and enhances an understanding of local and Australian history and heritage. Your work will directly contribute to successfully building visitation and reputation; and support the Museum’s excellence in education as well as cultural, audience diversification and financial objectives.
This is a permanent part-time position working 60.8 hours per fortnight.
On occasion, this position will be required to work evenings and weekends.
Some of the key responsibilities in this role will include
1. Being the primary point of contact for enquiries and bookings.
2. Delivering high-quality programs for education booked groups and general audiences from early learners to senior learners.
3. Maintaining spaces, materials and resources used in the delivery of the programs.
4. Assisting in the development, sourcing, preparation and maintaining of program materials.
5. Proactively engaging education institutions in order to increase student and educator visitation/participation in programs.
6. Proactively researching and identifying education opportunities for the NWM to participate in; such as: local and national events and professional development for teachers.
7. Assist with the development and delivery of Australian curriculum based programs for students and curriculum support materials for educators.
8. Assist with the evaluation of education and learning programs by providing feedback on audience response to programs.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
• Relevant qualification in teaching, education or related discipline. Such as: knowledge and skills gained through completion of a post trade certificate or other post-secondary qualification or knowledge and skills gained through on the- job training
• Demonstrated experience as a program deliverer and ability to interpret content and deliver engaging programs in a museum or similar cultural institution for a broad range of audiences.
• Demonstrated teaching skills and experience in the preparation and delivery of educative programs and materials for various age and skill levels that capture the students’ imagination and communicate key messages to an audience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong commitment to and proven ability to deliver a quality customer focused service and work harmoniously with a range of groups and individuals.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Current employee Working with Children check.
