The Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA) is a for purpose, non-government national association, representing museums and galleries throughout Australia. AMaGA Western Australia (WA) is the State’s peak advocacy body for the cultural and creative collecting sector.

Sponsored by the Western Australian (WA) Museum, the Open the Doors program supports the ongoing development of knowledge and practical skills in museums, galleries, libraries, archives and other collecting organisations across WA. It aims to strengthen community networks and solidify the sustainability of collecting organisations as valued assets in the wider community.

This series of workshops is focused on people working and volunteering in regional cultural and creative collecting organisations. It is tailored around Australian industry standards for collections management and digitisation. The training is designed to help organisations to build capability in the preparation of the policies, procedures and skills required to take advantage of the online collections platform, Collections WA.

Governance and Policies:

  • An overview of the National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries and how to practically apply them to your organisation.
  • Understand your organisation’s purpose as the basis for everything you do.
  • The core policies and procedures for managing and using your collection and how to develop them.

Thanks to the generosity of WA Museum, this program has been heavily subsidised making it accessible to the broadest audience.

Registration is $44 for AMaGA Members and $55 for non-members.

The program will be delivered online via Zoom. For more information contact our Events and Professional Development Officer Sam Beard on sam.beard@amaga.org.au

This program has been developed by AMaGA Western Australia and the WA Museum with support from the Western Australia State Government.
