The Picasso Century is developed by the Centre Pompidou and the Musée national Picasso-Paris, in partnership with the NGV. The exhibition charts Pablo Picasso’s extraordinary life in dialogue with the many artists with whom he intercepted and interacted throughout his career. With around 80 works by Picasso himself alongside over 100 works by more than 50 of his contemporaries, the exhibition examines the diverse influences and encounters that steered Picasso through the many distinct periods of his artistic career, and his own often diversionary influence on his peers. Curated by noted French curator and scholar of 20th century painting Didier Ottinger (Deputy Director of the Musée national d’Art Moderne, Centre Pompidou, Paris), The Picasso Century will provide a unique insight into the life and legacy of one of the twentieth century’s most influential and celebrated artists.
